Following the raid, residents were advised to keep keys for newer model cars in the microwave, fridge, or in a foil pouch.
Graham Twist, managing director at Astra Security Systems in Buckland Road, said: "A lot of new cars have keys that automatically open doors as you walk up to them.
“Criminals can buy technology online that is effectively a scanner.
“They can walk up to the front door of a house, scan for the key’s code and then walk up to a car, open the door and drive away or steal whatever they want by relaying the code.
“Unfortunately the manufacturers have known about it for a while, they haven’t come up with a solution yet but I’m sure they will eventually.
“We advise people to put keys in tin foil bags, their microwave or fridge as they can cover the signal and stop it reaching these scanners.
“It is similar to small foil-line pouches people put their contactless credit cards in to stop being robbed while their cards are in their pocket.”
