Cubs given a steer on cycle safety

Safety on and off your bike was the theme of a day for more than 100 members of the Malling and District Cub Scouts.

They, and members of St Michael's Cubs, Barming, earned badges and certificates for completing a cycling proficiency event.

And the youngsters, aged between seven and 10, also met police community support officers, who marked postcodes on their bikes to help trace them in case they were lost or stolen.

The course included safe riding, the importance of lights and reflective clothing, and how to keep cycles roadworthy and maintained.

Ken Sharp, assistant district commissioner for Malling Cub Scouts, said: “There have been a few accidents during the summer holidays involving children and cycles, so we decided to run this course.”
