Two people trapped below ground level with a fire raging above - it sounds like a script from a disaster movie.

But that was the scenario being played out in a fire service training exercise in Allington on Tuesday this week.

Seven fire engines attended the Integrated Waste Management Facility complex on Laverstock Road based on the idea that members of staff had become trapped in the lowest level of the building following a blaze.

Those taking part in the exercise played out in real time dealing with a developing fire on the ground floor and basement area of the building, while also searching for the missing employees.

Station Manager Paul Jarvis, who took park in the exercise, said: “This was a good opportunity for our crews to become familiar with the site and ensure that our existing tactical plans for tackling a fire at this location remain up to date.

“Overall the exercise went well and I would like to thank Kent enviropower for their assistance in helping everything run smoothly on the night”.

Michael Osborne, the health and safety manager for Kent enviropower, said: “I would like to thank KFRS for taking the time and arranging such an exercise on our site.

"It’s always a positive to test our plans and is an absolute must to ensure that we have the most accurate information available to the emergency services.”
