Five weeks of planned water works in Forstal Road, Aylesford have been scrapped.
South East Water was due to spend £30,000 on a 102 metre section of new water main along the road.
Work was due to begin on Monday, August 6 which would have led to part of the road being closed over the summer holidays.
But today a spokesperson confirmed the works were being pushed back - with no later date set.
Had plans gone ahead, the road would have been closed in sections between Rochester Road and Bailey Bridge Road.
The new water main promises to improve capacity and maintain water pressure to meet a growing demand in the area.
Matthew Cooper, project manager at South East Water, said: "Work to install 100 metres of new pipeline along Forstal Road, Aylesford was due to begin on Monday 6 August, however we took the decision to delay the project to enable further discussions to take place between Kent Highways and the local bus company.
"Once complete, the new pipeline will maintain tap water pressure to the area as Southern Water’s wastewater plant is expanded and new developments are built.
"We will update the community once a new start date has been agreed but in the meantime, customers can keep up to date on planned and emergency water works using our interactive map on our website."
Aylesford is already facing a busy summer of traffic.
Temporary traffic lights are in place on London Road, which is currently the diversion route while Tonbridge Road remains closed to fill a sinkhole.
