Drivers on the M20 yesterday afternoon called the police in shock after they saw a horse on the carriageway.

Kent Highways warned motorists to be wary of the animal at 5.25pm and said it was close to the roundabout at junction 4 for Leybourne.

Police were first called 20 minutes earlier, with a member of the public telling them it was in Ashdon Way, West Malling, and heading towards the motorway.

A police spokesman said it ran into a field about an hour and a half later.
