A CCTV image of a man police want to speak to after a theft at a supermarket has been shared.

A shopper was targeted at a self-service till at the Sainsbury's at Quarry Wood Industrial Estate on Monday, March 6.

A short time later, she was distracted and her phone and bank cards were stolen.

One of her cards was used to buy a mobile phone in the same store, and cash was taken from her account using a nearby ATM.

Police have now released an image of a man who may be able to assist with the investigation and anybody who recognises him is urged to contact the appeal line.

Investigating officer PC Bobby Hills said: "While we are investigating this crime, I would remind shoppers to be careful when out and about to avoid becoming victim to opportunist thieves.

"It is important to ensure nobody is able to see your PIN when you use a cash machine or pay for purchases. Never leave handbags unattended and always lock your car when you have unpacked your shopping and are returning the trolley.

"Take particular care if anybody you do not know engages you in conversation outside the store."

As soon as a theft of bank cards is discovered, the victim should contact the banks immediately to prevent criminals from withdrawing money or making purchases.
