It is five years since Adam Porter from Larkfield lost his father to cancer.
Lloyd Porter, a Welshman and an avid rugby fan, passed away in hospital just after he and Adam had watched the New Zealand versus South Africa game together on a laptop during the Rugby World Cup.
It was a Saturday, October 24, the night the clocks went back.
Ever since Adam Porter of Bates Close has set himself a series of physically challenging fund-raising tasks to support cancer charities.
Last week, on the anniversary of his Dad's death, which by co-incidence was also Saturday and the day the clocks went back, the total he has raised topped £10,000.
He said: "Funnily enough, there was also a rugby coach on that day: Wales versus France, that is a game my father would have loved to see."
Mr Porter said: "My mother had suffered from cancer too, thank goodness hers is in remission. But you can imagine it's a cause very close to my heart."
Mr Porter's fund-raising challenges have included running the London Marathon three times, the Bournemouth Marathon, the Brett Lydd 20-Mile Race, the London Triathlon, climbing Mount Snowdon, swimming the Serpentine and countless other events.
Among the charities he has supported are Children with Cancer UK (£1,389), Cancer Research UK (£1,260), Macmillan Cancer Support (£1,974), NHS Charities Together (£823), the National Autistic Society (£2,222), and Scope (£2,440), making a grand total of £10,108.
He said: "I have had such amazing support from family, friends and strangers every year with my challenges. But it was particularly poignant to reach my target of 10k on my Dad's anniversary."
And he has not stopped yet.
In April next year, he is walking from his home in Larkfield to the Three Cliffs Bay in Swansea, where his father had asked for his ashes to be scattered.
He will be joined on the walk by Akeem Griffiths, who is also Welsh and is an ambassador for Macmillan Cancer Support in Wales. Mr Griffiths is perhaps better known as a runner-up on the last ever Big Brother.
Mr Porter said: "Akeem Griffiths is a good friend of mine and it seems like a good way to honour my dad."
