Also known as the Festival of Lights, Diwali is a Hindu festival that celebrates the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.

The celebrants, who numbered around 100, enjoyed music and dancing, and plenty of food.

Cllr Newton said: “We were delighted to be invited. Carol and I had a lovely time and were made to feel very welcome.

“The different styles of traditional Indian dancing were absolutely fantastic to see and the food was incredible too!

“We made lots of new friends!”
