A minute’s applause was held during Maidstone United’s first match of the season in tribute to 12-year-old Charlie Girling, who died on a Scout trip last week.
Stones fans, as well as the visiting York City supporters, stood to remember the Maplesden Noakes pupil by clapping during the 12th minute of the game at The Gallagher Stadium yesterday.
Charlie, who had been in Finland with the 1st Aylesford Scout Group for an international convention, died suddenly on Sunday, July 24.

An investigation into the cause of his death is ongoing. A remembrance event and balloon release was due to be held by family and friends at Ferryfield in Hall Road, Aylesford on Thursday evening.
Charlie, of Ash Close in Aylesford, was described by heartbroken parents Les and Helene as a keen footballer who “lived life to the full” .
Before the game, Stones fans discussed how they could pay their respects.

Edward Plumb, 53, said: “The majority of us that follow Maidstone United have children or grandchildren the same age, so this sad story hit us all, despite not knowing the lad personally.
It was chosen that they would applaud when the clock hit 12 minutes to signify his age.
Newly-promoted United were held to a 1-1 draw, with the tie broadcast live on BT Sport.
The gesture was carried out with the support of Charlie’s family and the Scout group, while a tribute was also carried in the match programme.
Speaking before the match, club secretary Ian Tucker said: “On a day when he should have been at The Gallagher Stadium watching the Stones play York City, we will take a moment during the game to remember him and show our support to all those who knew him.”
