M26 between Wrotham Heath and Chipstead partially closed due to lorry fire

Part of a busy motorway has been closed due to a lorry fire.

Motorists travelling coastbound on the M26 are facing five-miles of queues and 45 minute delays because of the blaze.

It is closed between the M25 turn off for Chipstead and Junction 2A for Wrotham Heath.

Four fire engines are at the scene alongside National Highways traffic officers top deal with the incident.

A bulk water carrier is being used by crews as well as their main jets to extinguish the flames.

National Highways told drivers: “Once the fire has been extinguished, the carriageway will require debris to be cleared and the road surface to be inspected."

Traffic is advised to follow the below diversion, which is not symbol led.

• At J5 of the M25 continue on the anti-clockwise for approximately 7 miles to J3.

• Exit the M25 anti-clockwise at J3 and at the roundabout take the 4th exit onto the M20 eastbound, towards Dover.

• Remain on the M20 eastbound for approximately 6 miles to J2.

• Exit at J2 and use the A20 to reach M26 J2A (near Wrotham Heath) or continue eastbound to reach M20 J3 (where the M26 meets the M20).
