A mother has pulled her eight-year-old child out of school after she found a blade in his bag.

Aimee Collison had just collected her son Freddie from Cage Green Primary School in Tonbridge when she found the sharp object in his rucksack.

After she complained, the school told all parents in an email it had conducted a lengthy investigation, spoken to all parties about what they saw, and “there is no evidence that any knives have been brought into school”.

But Aimee isn’t happy. The 32-year-old said: “He was a bit quiet when I picked him up from school but he said he was fine.

“He went upstairs to get out of his uniform, while I took his lunch box and water bottle from his bag.

“Something sharp hit my finger and that’s when I realised my eight-year-old had a blade in his bag.

“It looked like a rusty Stanley blade about three inches long.”

Aimee called Freddie downstairs to ask him about it. He began sobbing as he recalled what happened.

Freddie told his mum that he saw a classmate go through his bag after one of their lessons.

When he asked why he was going through his stuff, he said the classmate told him to shut up and pushed him.

When Freddie got the chance to look in his bag, he saw the blade. Panicked and not sure what to do, Freddie said he closed his bag, left it and never touched it until he got home.

The next day Aimee withheld her son from lessons but went into school with him to have a meeting with one of the teachers.

Aimee said: “We went into a room and I expressed my concerns and explained what my son had told me.

“She [the teacher] was very adamant that this would be dealt with quickly and appropriately.

“She told us if we can prove it was this boy there would be consequences put into place, but we would not be able to know what they were.”

Freddie was asked to return to school but as they left the meeting he told Aimee he felt uncomfortable doing so.

That afternoon, Aimee went to collect her 10-year-old daughter – a pupil at the same school – when more issues came to light.

She said: “While waiting for my daughter, one of the other parents asked why Freddie wasn’t in school.

“I explained and he then told me his son – who is in Freddie’s class – had said the night before this boy had put something sharp in Freddie’s bag and he saw him do it and saw him put things in two other bags too.

“By the time his son came out, he told his father the boy in question had a meeting with the school and after said he was going to kill Freddie and his teacher.”

After hearing of the threat, Aimee decided her children were not safe and neither have been back since.

Several days on since the initial incident on September 18, the mother-of-four – who also has a 14-year-old daughter and a one-year-old – is unhappy with how things have been handled.

Aimee said: “They asked me if I wanted the kid kicked out and I said ‘well, yes’ or at least expelled temporarily with my son until the issue is resolved but the school said there’s absolutely no way that could happen as there was no evidence.

“The school is a joke. Children and teachers could be at risk and there could be another knife on school premises.

“I’ve taken my children out of school and have asked KCC to try to move them.

The school was contacted for a comment but did not respond.

An email, seen by KentOnline, was sent out by the school to parents on Friday, September 22 addressing the issue.

It said: “We are aware that there are some rumours circulating that a pupil has brought a ‘knife’ into school.

“We take the possibility of there being a weapon in school very seriously.

“Since this was brought to our attention on Monday [September 18], the school has conducted a lengthy investigation and spoken to all parties about what they saw.

“Now we have concluded our investigation, we would like to assure parents that there is no evidence that any knives have been brought into school.

“We would like to ask parents to speak to children about suitable items to bring into school.”

Freddie has now been given a place at a new school, starting Monday.
