Plans for the expansion of a countryside fishing enterprise, including a new lake and holiday chalets, have been approved.

Tricklebrook Fishery in Colts Hill, Tonbridge, submitted an application to Tunbridge Wells council in October.

The business was established in 1996 and already has a four-acre specimen lake and a single acre match fishing lake.

A specimen lake is known for having a lot of big carp, all weighing more than 30lbs.

It is very popular with fishermen in the local area and provides bait, refreshments, breakfast on request and toilet facilities.

The site is currently undergoing works to provide holiday pods and bailiffs accommodation which was approved in January 2021.

A bailiff’s cabin will ensure 24/7 security on-site, and protect fish stocks from theft and predators.

Its most recent planning application includes a new fishing lake, four chalets, a barn, as well as hard and soft landscaping.

The additional lake will be constructed on agricultural land, between the A228 and the fishery.

It will provide more casting opportunities for visiting anglers and will allow the business to increase its stock and variety.

They also plan to introduce new conditions and challenges to keep customers visiting the site.

Four single-storey chalets, which will be used for holiday accommodation, are to be built around the lake alongside a number of “swims”.

The proposals say they would be “limited in terms of their size and contemporary in terms of their design to enhance the character of the existing site”.

Made up of three rooms, they will have one bedroom, a bathroom, combined kitchen plus dining area, and a terrace.

It goes on to say a steel framed barn will be used for the “storage of equipment, tools, feed and six ‘growing on pools’ for infant fish”.

The plans were approved by Tunbridge Wells council on Monday, June 19.
