Wrotham will be alive with the sound of blues, gospel, rock, folk, classical and almost every other type of tune you can think of this August Bank Holiday weekend as the village holds its annual music festival.
Now in its fifth year, the Wrotham Music Festival has grown in strength attracting internationally acclaimed artists as well as local musicians.
Festival director Nick Castell said: "For the fifth year running Wrotham will celebrate its love of music. Whatever music you like, there will be something for you in the village this Bank Holiday.”
This year's festival kicks off on Friday, August 23, with a free Monkey Music session for kids in the village hall. For older children, the afternoon will see a family concert of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf in St George's Church featuring talented musicians from Walthamstow Hall School as well as audience participation.
On Saturday, Kevin Stannards will hold his Jukebox Jam vocal workshop in the church from 10am to 1pm. All welcome to exercise their vocal cords. No singing experience or talent necessary!
Then from 2-5pm, singers and musicians are invited to take part in Buskers Corner at the village square. Sign up on the website to perform.
The headline act on Saturday night is Tango Tzigane, a heady mixture of classical and jazz featuring violinist Hazel Ross of Elektra who has worked with Bryn Terfel and Michael Buble.
Highlights on Sunday are a picnic in the park featuring a brass band from 3-5pm, followed by a barn dance featuring folk outfit FiddleFit in the Barn at the Rose and Crown from 7.30pm.
The weekend ends with an opera gala on Monday afternoon.
Local bands will play in pubs throughout the weekend including Barnyard Rebellion in the Rose and Crown on Friday night, a full day of performances at The Moat on Saturday and an afternoon event at The Bull on Monday.
