Police are warning residents to be on guard after two men attempted a distraction burglary of an elderly couple.
Two men are reported to have forced their way into a property in Roundhay, Leybourne, claiming they were delivering bins.
After knocking on the door the suspects said they could see damage to the chimneys, which needed to be repaired.
They were refused entry by the couple but pushed their way past and made their way into the loft.
When one of the victims mentioned calling the police, the men left empty handed.
Det Insp Garry Cook of West Kent CID said: "There is always a possibility that these two men may have been acting honestly, however the home owner did the right thing and called the police.
"I would remind residents that if you have any concerns about people calling at your home, don’t open the door. Always check the identity of anyone who calls and don’t be afraid to close your door and leave them waiting outside if you need to telephone to make checks."
The men are described as being white and aged in their 40s.
