A paper mill has plans to improve its water treatment works.
Smurfit Kappa Townsend Hook at Mill Street in Snodland has a plant to treat effluent water that cannot be recirculated back into the paper-making process before it is discharged into the River Medway nearby.
To meet the quality standards required by the terms of its Environment Agency permit, it is seeking permission to replace its 30-year-old concrete storage tank with a stainless steel tank.
At the same time it is proposing the demolition of a redundant anaerobic digester plant and the construction of a new bunded hard standing area.
The company said: "Support for this proposal is essential. A reliable and sustainable water treatment process is critically important to the continued operation.
"The improvements will enhance existing protection against uncontrolled discharges to land and water."
The new tank will measure seven metres in diameter and be 15 metres tall.
The existing tank measures 15m x 30m x 6m high.
Snodland Town Council has raised no objection.
The application can be viewed on the Tonbridge and Malling council website here.
