In the run-up to the Rugby World Cup, venues across Kent will welcome the sport’s greatest prize.
The William Webb Ellis Trophy will pass through the county tomorrow (Thursday) – the 85th day of its 100-day national tour – stopping off in Aylesford, Maidstone and Meopham.
Aylesford Rugby Club will display the cup from 3pm until 5pm, with its premiership ladies side hosting a women’s skills session at the same time.
The Hall Road side is the only rugby club in the county to host the trophy, the tour will also stop off at Leeds Castle where anyone with a valid admission ticket can see the trophy between 12pm-2pm.
The tour will also stop at County Hall, in Maidstone, and the Helen Allison autistic school in Longfield Road, Meopham, for private events.
The tour, which started on June 10 in Scotland, saw the cup travel to Ireland and fellow host nation Wales before embarking on the final 75-day stretch through England on July 7.
It will culminate at the home of English rugby, Twickenham Stadium, on Friday, September 18, in time for the opening ceremony and first match of the tournament, England versus Fiji.
Debbie Jevans, CEO of England Rugby 2015, said: “The Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour will be the perfect opportunity to excite and engage fans across the UK and Ireland and make 2015 feel like the year of the rugby nation.”
