A dramatic video has emerged showing a brave shop worker hurling crates of energy drink at a gunman who stormed in demanding cash.

CCTV obtained by KentOnline shows the masked intruder pointing the weapon and holding a knife at Bala Baleswaran at the Mace store in Aylesford in the raid at about 6.30am this morning.

But instead of backing down, he shields himself with a crate of energy drinks before throwing them at the man.

The video shows the robber wearing a gas mask as he storms in demanding money and cigarettes.

But after Mr Baleswaran threw the first tray of drinks the man began backing out of the door just as a customer arrives.

As he picks up another crate, cans can be seen scattering onto the floor.

The store worker's nightmare began at 6.20am when the man came into the shop in Premier Parade.

Mr Baleswaran said: "He came in and threatened me with a gun and so I threw soft drinks and he ran away. He did not get anything.

"I was scared after but not at the time - I was very angry.

"I went into a certain mentality - my mind just told me to throw the case and then afterwards my brain calmed down a bit."

He was working in the shop on his own and said nothing like this has happened for many years.

The suspect soon fled the shop empty-handed and was seen getting into a red getaway car.

Nothing was stolen and nobody was injured.

A customer then rang the police who arrived at the scene earlier this morning but have since left.

Mr Balaswaran added: "I was upset so a customer called the police to help me. They came very quickly and I would like to thank them for that."

Police issued a description of the man, who is described as being in his early 20s, around 6ft, of slim build in a white hooded top, tracksuit bottoms and white trainers. He was also wearing a face mask and was holding a carrier bag.
