Villagers in Trottiscliffe were treated a tasty lunch of home-made bread and carrot and coriander soup on Wednesday, courtesy of The Plough pub.
The Plough in Taylors Lane is a community-owned venture, after a number of residents chipped in to buy the business when it was threatened with closure.
Ian Mills, one of the investors, said: "We had a great deal of support from the community when we opened in July, but of course sadly we had to close once we moved into Tier 4 in November.
"Our young chef, Alex Yates, is very community minded and wanted to do something to help people in the village in these difficult times.
"He made a delicious soup and baked fresh bread which we distributed free to anyone who wanted it."
The soup was issued chilled in a container for two. Those unable to walk to the pub to collect it had it delivered to them. Eighty portions were distributed
Mr Mills said: "The gesture was so much appreciated that Alex is doing it again next Wednesday but with leak and potato soup."
Mr Yates said: “Although we are closed, this was our opportunity to give back something to the local community who have supported us so well from the day we opened on July 4.”
