A person has been rescued from a vehicle following a crash.

There was stationary traffic on the M20 London-bound carriageway between junction 4 for the A228 at Leybourne near Maidstone and junction 3 for the M26 near Wrotham.

Firefighters, the air ambulance, Kent Police, National Highways traffic officers and the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) were on the scene.

The accident happened at around 7.15am.

A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue said: “Firefighters worked closely with South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics and Kent Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance doctors to create space for the casualty to be assessed.

“The roof of the vehicle was removed using hydraulic rescue equipment, before the casualty was taken to a waiting ambulance.”

A police spokesperson said: “Officers and ambulance crews attended and a man was taken to hospital.

“His injuries were not life threatening. The road was temporarily closed and police left the scene shortly after 8.30am.”

An ambulance spokesman said: “Ambulance crews attended and were joined at the scene by a team from Air Ambulance Charity Kent, Surrey, Sussex in a road vehicle.

“One person was assessed and treated before being taken as a priority to Tunbridge Wells Hospital.”

All lanes were closed and traffic was being held.

There were initially reported delays of 45 minutes which then rose to an hour.

National Highways said all emergency services left the scene just after 9.30am.

Lane one remained closed while barrier repairs were carried out, but all lanes have now reopened.
