Several village roads are set to be shut for more than a week to allow resurfacing works to take place.

Three routes in Aylesford will be closed next Wednesday until Thursday, June 22.

The High Street and Forstal Road will be closed from outside The Friars to the junction with Forstal Road, outside the Aylesford Community Centre.

Rochester Road will also be shut between the junctions with High Street and Pratling Street.

Kent County Council (KCC) plan to carry out the works between 7pm and 5am.

A signed diversion will be in place, requiring drivers to go via Bull Lane, Pilgrims Way, Rochester Road, Pratling Street, Beddow Way, Forstal Road and vice versa.

The Friars posted a Facebook message last night, warning those travelling to the ancient priory to try and avoid the closure.

They said: “If you are visiting on those dates and plan to leave after 5.00pm we suggest following the route the coaches use, through Eccles village.”

KCC have been contacted for comment.
