Travellers move from Lillieburn, Leybourne, to fields in Leybourne Chase

Travellers given a court order to get off a grass field have upped stick and moved - five minutes away.

Caravans arrived at Lillieburn off Castle Way in Leybourne last Friday, dodging £36,000 of security measures.

Yesterday Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council served a court order for the encampment to move on.

The group obeyed and left the site last night, making a trip of around a mile and setting up a new camp on fields off Bannister Way.

A TMBC spokeswoman said: "The council is working with the police to review the new location of encampment and to establish who the land owner is.

"If it is private land it will be a process under civil law for the land owner to pursue."

Council workers have been sent out to Lillieburn today to clean any mess left behind from the encampment.

The group of travelling people have already been ousted from Gatland Lane recreation ground and then from a nearby site off Hermitage Lane earmarked for house building, both in Maidstone.

Maidstone Borough Council completed a clean-up of the Gatland Lane site on Tuesday.
