A pair of five-year-old twins were the youngest participants in a charity walk in aid of military veterans.
Mya and Ava Hughes, from Addington, raised £850 for the veterans' charity Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) with their 5km effort.
It was part of an organised walk to the Cenotaph in London on Friday, which was part of Walking Home for Christmas, the charity’s annual nationwide fundraising walking challenge.
The campaign runs from December 9 to December 20, and walkers can take part in whichever way suits them – they could do a short walk every day, or do a more challenging distance over 12 days, and can do it either alone or with friends and family.
Each of the organised walks, which were in London, Manchester and Newcastle, were on December 9, and had two 5km legs. Participants could join one or both – the first started at 11am and the second at 2pm.
The twins walked the last 5km of the London walk and have already raised more than £850.
They attend Kent College in Pembury and their friends and teachers helped to boost their fundraising total.
The money raised provides military veterans with mental health and employment support, and you can donate to the twins' fundraising page here.
Mya and Ava’s aunt, Sharon Hughes, who works for WWTW, said: "We have family members who served in the military so we really understand the need for the support provided by a charity like Walking With the Wounded.
"The girls’ dad took part in a boxing match this summer which raised £2,000 for Walking With The Wounded and they said they would like to do some fundraising themselves so the walk is perfect for them.
"They’re so excited to be taking part and I’m extremely proud of what they’re doing."
