Two engines were sent with crew members wearing breathing apparatus and using hose reel jets to put out the fire.

No one has been reported as injured and the cause of the blaze is currently unknown.

Duty of care was left with National Highways who said the road is to remain closed for repairs.

A spokesman said: “The road surface crews have inspected and confirmed lane 1 will require resurfacing. Lane 1 will remain closed throughout today; resurfacing will take place tonight.”

The vehicle has now been cleared with traffic said to be coping well.
