A community project from the Royal British Legion Industries has been shortlisted to receive a grant from the Big Lottery People’s Millions.
If successful, it will fund a project to create a community hub called Base Camp to provide a cafe and a programme of activities at the RBL village in Aylesford.
The aim of the project is to promote integration, whether visitors are veterans or non-veterans, to reduce isolation and encourage independence.
RBLI chief executive Steve Sherry said: “Establishing this facility will provide a much needed focal point for the village.
“At the heart of the hub, there will be a community cafe.”
The People’s Millions grants are determined by public votes, following a broadcast of a promotional film about the project which to be aired on Meridian News tonight.
Anyone wishing to support RBLI’s Base Camp can do so by telephoning 09015 228205 a landline or 6228205 from a mobile, and then choosing Option 2 for Base Camp.
Lines close at midnight. Mobile and BT landline votes cost 15p.
