A man has been fined £1,000 for failing to co-operate with a fly-tipping investigation.

The pile of rubbish including tiled boards, a shower screen and a shower tray was discovered in Scott Avenue, Rainham.

Medway council's investigation found that Michael Nunn, 32, of Peacock Rise, Chatham had abandoned the waste.

However Mr Nunn claimed he dumped the waste in a nearby garage.

After he failed to provide contact details for someone to verify his statement the council charged with failing to comply with an investigation.

He was supposed to appear in Medway Magistrates Court but did not arrive.

Magistrates fined him nearly £2000 for not helping the fly-tipping investigation and added court charges.

Cllr Jane Chitty, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder in charge of Enforcement, said: “Fly-tipping is unacceptable.

"We will prosecute anyone found dumping waste in Medway as well as those who hinder fly-tipping investigations.

"I would like to encourage residents to continue to report fly-tipping incidents to us so that we can clear them as quickly as possible.”
