THE wreckage of a car, a damaged lorry and a floral tribute from grieving relatives the now tragically familiar aftermath of a death crash on the A228.
At 7.10am on Saturday, the road claimed its 32nd victim in 20 years.
The crash, on a notorious accident blackspot known locally as the Windmill Bends on the Ratcliffe Highway near Hoo, took the life of a young man in his late teens or early 20s.
Police have not named him, but by Sunday morning a tribute "To Anthony" had been left at the scene.
The car and lorry collided outside the Windmill pub and a crew from Strood Fire and Rescue Service had to cut the car driver free. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
After the accident, the road was closed in both directions from the Bells Lane junction with the Ratcliffe Highway to the Grain Road junction with the main A228 at Hoo. Officers from Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene.
