Chatham is be given a £4 million facelift in a bid to attract more people to the town centre.
Planners want ideas on how to spend the windfall from the government to make the place a better place to live, work and shop.
Medway Council has drawn up its own masterplan of five phases, which starts from Chatham railway station to the Pentagon Shopping Centre entrance in Military Road.
The aim is to create an easier journey for pedestrians and cyclists with improvements planned for the New Cut junction, where the retained fire station was once based, and the area near the now redundant St John’s Church in Railway Street.
They include wider paths, seating, better lighting, plants and trees which, it is hoped, will give visitors a good first impression.
Cllr Jane Chitty, who is in charge of economic growth, said Chatham was a priority in the council’s regeneration plans.
Cllr Chitty said: “We can’t just wave a magic wand, but there are some relatively easy ways to make it less uninviting.”
The plans will also be on show at the Salvation Army Hall in Church Street between 8.30am and 9am on Thursday before the Chatham Town Forum Meeting. The consultation period lasts until Friday, February 5.
