The A228 through Cuxton is closed both ways this afternoon after a fire broke out in a disused garage.

Police have placed road closures in Darnley Road at the junction with Cuxton Road.

Officers advise motorists to avoid the area which is currently heavily congested.

Firefighters from Strood were called to Ballard Business Park in Cuxton Road at 12.35pm where it’s believed electrical cable was alight.

The garage is shut while repair works are carried out.

Firefighters are on standby awaiting the arrival of EDF engineers.
