A terminally ill grandmother has been left devastated after a cruel twist of fate has robbed her of her dream of seeing her idol Adele at Wembley tonight.
Cancer sufferer Lisa Middlecote paid £440 for her and her sister Justine Nield to see the star only to discover she had been conned by a fake events website.
The 49-year-old, who lives with her sister in Gillingham had wanted to “create a lasting memory gift” the two of them could share as she only has months to live.
After reading about their misfortune on Kent Online, a businessman came to the rescue and gave them VIP tickets with lavish extras at the London arena.
But Lisa’s dying wish was shattered this morning when the Medway Messeger broke the news that Adele has been forced to pull out on the advice of her doctor because of damaged vocal chords.
Speaking from their home in Balmoral Road, Justine, 45, said she was “utterly gutted”.
She said: “I just can’t believe it. It just seems we are jinxed. I don’t want to tell my sister. She’s been up since twenty to four this morning. She’s so excited.”
Taking to Twitter to break the news, the ‘Hello’ singer said: “To say I’m heartbroken would be a complete understatement.”
The 29-year-old had already played two sold out shows at the London venue on Wednesday and Thursday night, and was due to perform again tonight and tomorrow evening.
In a lengthy statement posted on Twitter, Adele explained that she had struggled vocally during the first two nights of her Wembley residency.
