Medway's cabinet makes a crucial decision on the future of adult social services today with campaigners ready with a special Valentine's Day protest.

The top councillors are discussing whether to press ahead with plans to get private companies to run three homes in the Towns and close the Balfour Day Centre to save £2.1m.

There's been fierce protests at the proposals and the politicians will be greeted by people waving broken hearts at today's meeting.

The Balfour Centre could be saved by an 11th hour offer to take it over by Medway Community Healthcare.

The cabinet will also discuss next year's budget including freezing council tax - already by far the lowest in Kent but slashing its funding of community groups.
