A woman has been taken to hospital in an air ambulance following a hit and run.
Part of Napier Road was closed off following the incident earlier today.
The woman, in her 40s, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a London hospital.
Police spokesman Sally Smith said: "The car is reported to have left the scene prior to police arrival.
"Inquiries are ongoing to locate the car and driver."
The helicopter landed on a nearby field as police and other ambulance crew were called.
The incident happened outside Lakeside Timber in the road and according to one man it is believed a vehicle failed to stop following a collision.
Witness Nicole Fox said: "From what I understand it was a hit and run outside the timber place on Napier Road.
"Police were not allowing people through as they were looking for evidence.
"A lady was brought into the park on a stretcher and loaded in to the helicopter and it took off shortly after. "
It is now understood the road is blocked in both directions at Junction Road not far from the church.
