Drivers faced severe delays on the A2 London-bound carriageway this morning.

There was heavy congestion from the M2 J1 (Strood, Strood) interchange to the A223 Southwold Road (Black Prince Interchange, at Bexley).

The disruption was the result of an earlier accident near the Bluewater Interchange at Bean at about 5am.

The crash involved three vehicles. One person suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

The road was re-opened by 6.30am, but there was very heavy traffic on the A2 because of the closure of the M2 between J1 and J3, due to a police incident last night.

The delays affected traffic heading for the M25 junction for the Dartford Tunnel.

Traffic had returned to normal by 10am.

Police have been contacted for more information.
