A delivery driver has told how he and a colleague went to the aid of a woman found collapsed and bleeding in the street following a medical incident at a supermarket.
Martin Lees and Ryan Payne, who work for electrical appliance giants Currys, made the shocking discovery in Gillingham Road, Gillingham, on Sunday afternoon.
As they went to help, emergency services were rushing to the nearby Aldi store in Duncan Road, which had been closed to customers.
KentOnline understands a recently delivered baby was found – but this is yet to be confirmed by the police or supermarket bosses.
Martin, 51, says he was driving along when he saw the woman, believed to be in her 20s and wearing just a top and leggings, lying motionless.
He and Ryan, 28, stopped, initially thinking she had been run over.
The dad-of-five said: "There was a lot of blood and she was bruised.
"We called the ambulance and got some bubble wrap out the van to keep her warm and put her in the recovery position.
"Then I thought she might have been stabbed but could not see where.
"We tried to talk to her, but she was semi-conscious and had a weak pulse.
"I'm not sure whether she could understand English. She had no bag, phone or ID on her."
Once medical help arrived on the scene, the pair continued their round and as they went past Aldi noticed the car park had been cordoned off.
The Walderslade resident added: "It's so sad. She seemed all alone."
Shoppers were asked to leave the busy store at about 1.45pm and the branch remained closed for the rest of the afternoon.
Witnesses said they counted up to three ambulances and five police cars at the scene.
Speaking on Monday, police spokesman James Walker said: "Officers were joined at the scene by South East Coast Ambulance Service and a woman was subsequently taken to a local hospital."
An Aldi spokesman said: "I'm afraid we don't comment on incidents involving the emergency services."
