A huge Dutch barge converted into a “dream home” with panoramic river views has come on the market.
The spacious vessel, moored at Hoo Marina, near Rochester, boasts self-contained captain’s quarters, as well as 10 cabins, a bar and a cinema room.
Built around 1970, she motored across the UK to deliver equipment for the 2012 London Olympic Games and arrived at her current location in 2017.
Arranged over two levels, the 130ft by 25ft boat has been refitted to create cosy cabins and open plan areas which are used for relaxation and work by the current owners.
An entrance room at the bow provides a pleasant area to welcome friends and family with well-positioned windows in the spacious saloon looking out to uninterrupted views of the Medway Estuary.
A minstrel’s gallery overlooks onto the lower floor and leads to what is currently used as a textile and design studio.
A 30ft by 20ft “chill zone “boasts indoor and outside areas, great for balmy summer evenings.
The master suite is located on the top deck and consists of a sitting room, dressing room and en-suite.
On the ground floor, there’s also a fully-equipped galley kitchen and a hallway leads to a pantry and stylish bathroom.
The captain’s quarters, which is a self-contained flat with two bedrooms, is currently let out for £845 a month.
Suzzanne McDonald, from the agents Boatshed Medway, said while there are currently five bedrooms there is scope to convert the cabins into up to nine sleeping areas.
She added: “This fabulous Dutch Cargo Barge captured the imagination of her current owners who created an open-plan style with a variety of creative living spaces. So creating their dream home.
“This vessel’s interior can be changed to suit your needs as the interior walls/bulkheads allow for this.
“It has been so sympathetically fitted out by her current owners who have lavished thousands of pounds in creating a wonderful home.
“This vessel would also lend herself to being a hospitality vessel, a profitable rental, either via room let or as a floating hotel.
“The possibilities are endless for this authentic Dutch Barge.”
The mooring is currently £1176 a month. The full listing is available here.
