Police have arrested a 30-year-old woman on suspicion of child neglect after a baby fell from a window in Rainham earlier today.

Officers are questioning the woman at a Police station outside the county while they piece together events leading up to the fall.

A witness said she saw the baby plummet from a window and strike a man before hitting the ground.

The woman was so stunned she at first thought the falling child was a doll.

The air ambulance was called to Rainham this morning after reports that a baby had fallen from the window of a flat.

Scene in Station Road, Rainham

The helicopter landed at Rainham Rec just after 8am.

A witness said the girl, who is thought to be about one year old, had fallen from a window above D&A Angling in Station Road.

The witness, who did not want to be named, was on her way to the train station when she saw the shocking accident.

She said: "I saw the baby fall from the window, but at first I thought it was a doll, it hit an elderly man on the shoulder then fell to the floor.

"I went to see if the man was okay and the baby wasn't making any sound so I still thought it was a doll, but then she started screaming.
