Air ambulance called to motorbike crash in Maidstone Road Chatham

The motorcylist who died in a crash in Medway yesterday was a 46-year-old man from Chatham, police have revealed.

Medical teams were unable to save the life of the rider after he crashed in Maidstone Road, Chatham.

Ambulance crews including the air ambulance were called to the scene at about 1.50pm.

It is not thought any other vehicles were involved in the crash, near the junction of Bournville Avenue.

One bystander believed the Yamaha scooter had crashed into a lamppost.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman said: "Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for any witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision in Maidstone Road, Chatham on Friday 10 June to come forward.

"The collision occurred at 1.45pm, when a white Yamaha scooter was being ridden from Chatham towards Maidstone, when for reasons unknown, the scooter mounted the pavement and collided with a roadside sign.

"The male, a 46-year-old man from Chatham died at the scene. He was wearing a dark coloured crash helmet, with a yellow reflective vest over a dark coloured coat."
