Discount supermarket Aldi is turning to the public for help in locating sites for new stores in two Kent towns.

The German-owner retailer wants to build supermarkets in Tunbridge Wells and Chatham as part of an £800m expansion across the UK.

In its annual trading update, Aldi said it planned to open 23 new locations before the end of the year.

The firm already has more than 1,000 stores across the country.

A spokesman said that Aldi was searching for freehold town-centre, edge-of-centre, or retail park sites suitable for development.

The sites should be able to accommodate a 20,000 sq ft store with around 100 parking spaces. Ideally, the location will be near a main road with good visibility and access.

Richard Thornton, communications director at Aldi UK, said: “We are committed to bringing high quality, affordable groceries to millions more British families.

“Our footprint is definitely growing, but we know there are still a number of towns that either don’t have an Aldi or have shown demand for more stores.”

Aldi already has a store on the Great Lodge Retail Park in Tunbridge Wells and one at Hosrsted in Chatham.

Anybody who has a site that fits Aldi’s requirements is invited to contact realestateacquisitions@aldi.co.uk

Aldi has been rated by the consumer group Which? as the UK’s cheapest grocer.
