Proposals are being made to redevelop the former Kingsnorth power station site, three years after it was demolished.

Energy company Uniper is looking to build a mixed-use development on the land and says more than 2,000 jobs could be created.

Under its proposals for the 279 acres on the Hoo Peninsula, are commercial, manufacturing and industrial buildings.

There will be potential for storage, distribution and data centres.

Bosses say the scheme, which is known as MedwayOne, will regenerate part of the brownfield site and attract long-term investment into the Towns.

The firm plans to submit an outline planning application to the council in the spring.

But beforehand, it is inviting people to a virtual public exhibition to understand the proposals.

Interested parties will also be able to quiz the project team.

As well as the buildings, Uniper says an "energy hub" is part of its plans.

This could provide an energy source, steam and heat for businesses, as well as a heating scheme for the proposed housing development - Hoo Rural Town.

Hundreds of people gathered in March 2018 to watch the former power station chimney demolished after it dominated the skyline more than than 40 years,

MedwayOne project manager Adam Archer said: “This provides an opportunity to attract investment into Medway through the delivery of up to 330,000 sq m of employment space.

"It has the potential to bring a range of benefits including, around 2,000 to 2,500 permanent, full-time equivalent jobs once MedwayOne is fully occupied; and, around 700 construction jobs over the lifetime of the build."

The virtual public exhibition began yesterday and will be available until Wednesday, February, 24.

Project team members will be available to discuss queries or comments people may have about the proposals at three live, online sessions.

These will be held on Zoom on Thursday, February, 11 from 7pm to 8pm; Saturday, February, 13, between 10.30am and 11.30am, and on Monday, February, 15, from 3.30pm until 4.30pm.
