The air ambulance was also called.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "A black Vauxhall Corsa was attempting a turn in the road in Canterbury Street at the junction with Chaucer Road in front of an oncoming black Honda Civic.

"The cars came into collision and the impact caused the Corsa to go sideways across the mouth of the junction, onto the kerb and into a wall.

"The driver and passenger in the Civic were unhurt.

"Officers closed the road from the junction with Byron Road to the junction with Cowper Road while they gathered evidence."

Any witnesses to the crash are asked to call PC Derek Mole or PC Mick Sayer in the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538.
