Man arrested after helicopter circles Medway and armed police storm Castle Road in Chatham

Armed police stormed a street overnight and the police helicopter circled the Towns after a man violently attacked a woman.

At 2am today the police helicopter swooped low across the Luton Road area of Chatham and armed police were spotted outside a home in Castle Road in Chatham.

This was in connection to an incident at 11.15pm yesterday when a man assaulted a woman and threatened to inflict further violence on her.

Social media posts from people living in the street said the area was cordoned off between 2am and 3am.

There were also ambulances parked in adjoining Luton Road.

Police spokesman Steve Knight said: "Officers supported by armed patrols and the National Police Air Service helicopter attended the location and arrested a 42-year-old man nearby."

No serious injuries were reported.

The man remains in police custody.

The victim and suspect are believed to be know each other.
