Armed police and roads unit arrest Margate man on suspicion of stealing van from Chatham

Armed police chased a van after it was reported stolen.

Officers were called just before 1am after the vehicle disappeared from Barberry Avenue in Chatham.

Firearms officers and the roads policing unit found the van and pulled it over close to the junction with the M25 and the A13 in Essex at around 1.15am.

A 36-year-old man from Margate was arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle. He remains in custody.

No weapons are thought to have been involved in the incident.
