Arrest made after armed police called to Richmond Road in Gillingham

A man was arrested following a raid on a house in Gillingham.

Police were called at 4.25am to Richmond Road.

Officers arrived by 5am and a man was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.

Firearms officers assisted as there was concerns for a person at the property and fears a weapon was inside the house.

Police confirmed there is no danger to the public.

Cleaner Sue Waters was on her way to work at about 5.45am when she was confronted by police who had cordoned off the road.

Mrs Waters said:"There's been raids up that road before, but nothing on that scale. I saw about five to six police cars. It all seemed quite calm, but it's very worrying. They seemed to be guarding a house up there.

"My granddaughter walks up that way to school. It's scary stuff."

Frenkli Uku, 21, of Richmond Road, Gillingham, was charged later on Friday with the production of class B drugs.

He appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court on Saturday and was given conditional bail.

He will appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, February 10.
