Baby saved by quick-thinking people after suspected cardiac arrest at The Strand, Gillingham

Quick-thinking people saved a baby's life at a leisure park after the youngster suffered a suspected cardiac arrest.

The girl apparently became ill at The Strand Leisure Park in Gillingham yesterday afternoon and is understood to have stopped breathing.

The child was given CPR by another parents at the site and had begun to respond before paramedics arrived.

Crews in an ambulance car and two ambulances then took over her care, having received a 999 call at 3.50pm.

She was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital for further treatment and observation.

Richard Airey, spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service, said: "We would like to thank everyone involved at the scene for their quick thinking and joint actions to save the child.

"We hope the girl is continuing to recover."

The park, which is popular with families, is managed by Medway Council.
