Streets have been full to the brim over the Bank Holiday weekend as people from all around the county celebrated an annual festival.

Thousands flocked to Rochester High Street for the 38th Sweeps Festival staged in the town.

Festival goers enjoyed the fun atmosphere and danced along to the music.

Visitors enjoyed seeing morris dancers fill the streets, while other dressed in costumes.

People could enjoy a fun fair at the historic Rochester Castle.

Other attractions include a folk-art and psychic fair, a children’s fun fair, real-ale tent and a licensed bar in Rochester Castle Gardens.

Glenda Busby, 60, who visited from Swanley, said it was nice to see more people there this year.

She said: "I went last year which I enjoyed and this year I felt there were more people attending the festival which was good.

"I also felt there were more morris dancers and their dance routines and displays were continuous through the day. It's the happy positive energy that I enjoy from the morris dancers, bands and the public.

"The public are free to dress and express themselves freely to the happy atmosphere without any concern from others which is how life should be.

"I like the spiritual side of it and the variety of stalls and crafts that are offered.

"Medway Council organise it well in support of the public's safety and enjoyment and cater for a wide variety of tastes of food with the opportunity to bring your own to relax and picnic with your family and friends."

The festival continues tomorrow.
