Girl, six, taken to Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham after being knocked down by car in Beechings Way

A six-year-old girl has been taken to hospital after being knocked down by a car in Gillingham this afternoon.

The youngster suffered a suspected broken leg after being hit by the vehicle in Beechings Way.

Kent Police said officers were called to the scene at about 3.45pm.

A spokesman said the girl was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The Kent air ambulance was spotted landing nearby.

But the child is understood to have been taken to the Gillingham hospital by land ambulance.

Beechings Way was closed for about an hour while police were at the scene.
