Controversial plans to build five houses in the former kitchen garden of Bishopscourt, the Bishop of Rochester’s residence, in Love Lane, Rochester, will be discussed at a planning committee on Wednesday.

The application involves the construction of one four-bed home and four three-bed homes.

The site has permission to build four two-bed and one four-bed homes, which was allowed on appeal in April last year.

Officers have recommended the application is approved but due to a high number of objections by local residents, the plans are going before the committee.

The council received 12 letters, including one from the City of Rochester Society, objecting to the proposals citing reasons including increased traffic and overdevelopment.

Another controversial plan on the agenda is for a block of flats on the former police station at Birling Avenue, Rainham, which has received 50 letters of objection.
