People living in a quiet residential street have spoken of their shock after two bodies were found in garage in an apparent double suicide.
The Medway couple, a man aged 41 and a woman aged 46, were found in a car off Winchester Way, Rainham, on Sunday afternoon.
The car was parked in a rented garage at the back of homes in the quiet cul-de-sac, which is in the middle of a residential area.
Police are investigating but say the deaths are not suspicious. Their next of kin have been informed.
Maureen Evans, whose house backs on to the garages said: "I got home at about 3.45pm and there were police here. There were three police cars initially. It was all taped off and there was a police officer standing guard.
"Later there were police going round the houses asking questions. They were all gone by about 7.30pm."
She added: "I have lived here 20 years and you don't expect something like this to happen. It is very sad."
Winchester Way resident Joan Crowley, 85, said: "I am shocked. I can't believe it. It's an awful thing to happen. The people whose homes back on to the garages must feel terrible."
Another resident who did not want to be named, said: "We saw all the police here on Sunday. Then they were knocking on doors in the evening. We don't know who the people are, we don't even know if they are local."
A spokesman confirmed: "Police were called to Winchester Way, Rainham, at 1.27pm on Sunday, September 28, following a report of concern.
"Officers attended and the bodies of a male and a female were recovered from a vehicle in a garage. The deaths are not currently being treated as suspicious."
A woman who lives near the scene, who did not want to be named, said: "Apparently there were screams heard as the two bodies were discovered.
"Police were seen making inquiries to any local residents for any sightings of the male and female found."
Police have not yet released the ages of the man and the woman or where they are from.
The coroner has been informed.
