Two non-explosive wartime metal objects, known as ‘solid shot’ have been recovered from a riverbank.

Officers were called to the site near Rochester High Street at 11.21am today (October 30).

An explosive ordnance disposal team from the Ministry of Defence (MOD) attended the report.

The objects were recovered from a building site in Furrells Road.

A spokesperson for Vistry Group said: “Workers at our Rochester Riverside development discovered what appeared to be unexploded wartime ordnance on a riverbank this morning.

“All work was immediately stopped and the site was cleared as a precaution.”

A MOD spokesperson said: “We can confirm an Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from 11EOD&S Regiment was called to High Street, Rochester, at the request of Kent Police.”

“Two non-explosive solid metal objects were found, known as ‘solid shot’ and likely from the WWII era. They were safely taken away for disposal.”
