Bomb squad called to Rochester after grenade found at suspected murder scene

Bomb disposal experts were called after police found a grenade at a suspected murder scene.

Officers were searching an address in Delce Road, Rochester, where Stephen Chapman was found dead on Sunday , when they uncovered the suspicious device.

Police confirmed Explosive Ordnance Disposal experts from the Ministry of Defence attended the scene on Tuesday evening after the discovery of what was believed to be a hand grenade.

They said the team subsequently confirmed the device was inert and not a threat to safety.

George Knights, 18, of Delce Road, Rochester, appeared before magistrates this morning accused of the murder of Stephen Chapman.
