A boy racer who ploughed in to 15 bystanders while showing off his modified Mini on Medway City Estate could face jail.

A judge warned Harlee Pendergast, 18, a spell behind bars was highly likely after the horror crash which left four people seriously hurt.

Pendergast was arrested at the scene following the accident which led to four men aged between 20 and 50 being taken to a London hospital.

Victims suffered injuries including a fractured skull and a fractured spine when he lost control of the car late at night on the Strood estate.

Pendergast pleaded guilty to four counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and one count of witholding information to obtain motor insurance when he appeared before Woolwich Crown Court. The fifth offence relates to modifying a vehicle without declaring it to his insurers.

Modifications included adding blue lights and a modification to the exhaust.

The court heard how Pendergast attended the “informal event” where cars users “demonstrated” their vehicles on Friday September 30 last year.

At a previous hearing it was revealed the driver was thought to be travelling between 47 and 69 miles per hour in the 30 zone.

Those badly hurt were named as Mike Dwyer, Rory Nicholls, Ryan Taylor and Thomas Spriggs.

Pendergast from Erith, south east London was told he must return to Woolwich Crown Court for sentencing on May 9.

But Judge Alan Saggerson warned the defendant of the “high probability” he would receive an immediate custodial sentence.
